ETUDE HOUSE Moistfull Collagen Deep Cream Review

ETUDE HOUSE Moistfull Collagen Deep Cream 75ml Review on combination skin

Hello and welcome! The time has come to share my thoughts on the most controversial skincare product of 2020 (yet) – Etude House Moistfull Collagen Deep Cream review.

Right away, let me tell you my skin type and main concerns. I’m in my late 20s and my skin type is combination. My T-zone is normal to oily and my cheeks and chin are normal to dry. As a rule, the oiliness of my T-zone is aggravated by certain foundations, skincare products, and in the summer, but even then it’s just a bit of shine, so I wouldn’t call it oily. I am allergic to certain artifical colorants and fragrances in skincare products – usually my skin gets itchy and flares up, more rarely I can get a rash.

What do I want from a face cream? My ideal face cream would be nourishing, lightweight, and moisturizing. I need a cream that is good for sensitive combination skin, supports a healthy moisture-oil balance of the skin, and helps the skin look even. I appreciate a cumulative and persistent moisturizing effect, i.e. when face creams provide long-lasting effect and improve the skin condition over time.

Price: $14.68 on Jolse (that particular unboxing post here)

Used for: 4 months twice a day

Packaging: sturdy plastic jar in a carton box, a small spatula is included:

Texture/consistency: smooth, a scoop holds its shape, but the cream isn’t too thick:

Scent: strong sweet rose scent. Not like in old perfumes, but a pleasant, sweet kind of rose. There’s a current trend of rose perfumes in the fragrance industry (e.g. Lancôme Idôle, Guerlain Mon Guerlain Bloom of Rose, etc), but why did Etude House decide to bring this particular scent into a face cream? I know for a fact that not everyone is fond of the rose scent, besides it lingers on the skin for hours after application.

By the way, this is a new version of the cream (the whole Moistfull line was reformulated) and the scent has changed from a very mild cosmetics scent to this potent rose scent.

My impressions: the whole story is ‘disappointment-mild satisfaction-disappointment’ for me. At first I was taken aback by the scent – it was too strong. I don’t mind scent in skincare, but not when it’s too potent. The texture was smooth and nourishing though, so I continued using it. This cream provided decent moisturizing effect for my skin and didn’t cause any irritations. It also wasn’t too heavy and didn’t clog pores – perfect for spring.

Over time I started noticing that my skin started looking kind of progressively dull. The worst part is that my T-zone became more and more oily – a good sign that my skin wasn’t moisturized enough. A good face cream leaves the skin moisturized enough so that it doesn’t need to ‘compensate’ the dryness by producing more oil. Just to be sure, I switched to a tried and true face cream for a few days – my skin was less oily (btw, it wasn’t any oil-controlling cream – just a regular nourishing cream).

Overall, I’m quite disappointed. Etude House Moistfull Face Cream pre-reformulation was my absolute favorite, but now I can’t get that product anywhere anymore 😞 I browsed reviews for this cream on Amazon and there were reviews saying that the cream after reformulation isn’t working as well as the original cream at all, and I must say I agree with that.

Efficiency: a little bit goes a long way, so this jar will last a long time

Would I repurchase? Absolutely not. It didn’t live up to my expectations and caused negative changes in my skin overall. The fact that it didn’t cause any irritations or allergic reactions isn’t enough – there are so many great face creams that this one falls short big time.

    1. Have you been using the newer or older version of the deep cream? I wonder if the quality has changed throughout the whole line, because many products are my favorites 🤔
Yes, I’ve tried the foam a few years back, but wasn’t particularly impressed with it. I have other K-beauty foams that I like much better.

      1. I think the Moistfull line was revamped last year. In 2019, I still saw old version of it – peach color packaging, and I bought a toner in this line. However, this year I see only this new, light purple-pink packaging.

    1. I find that to be so true! I don’t understand why brands change perfectly good products to begin with. I consider this Moistfull line a staple in K-beauty and the original formulas were so amazing. I wish I’d have backups of my favorite items. Well, the search for favorite skincare items continues 🤔
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment ❤️
